Stephen Tanzer sings the praises of four Apaltagua wines. He awards Grial Carmenère 2007 90+ points, calling it rather suave on entry, then firmer in the middle, with a subtly perfumed quality to the black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. Finishes smoky an long, with sweet tannins. Impressively deep and harmonious. He describes the Envero Carmenère 2008 as having broad, sappy blackcurrant and licorice pastille flavors. Tannins arrive on the firm, spicy, nicely persistent finish. 89 points” Of the Reserva Carmenère 2008, he says “the finish features a bitter cherry quality and lingers with very good spicy persistence. 88 points” Finally, he describes the Reserva Chardonnay 2009 as “fresh and juicy, with penetrating acidity adding cut to the bitter citrus peel and orchard fruit flavors. A refreshingly brisk, tart style of chardonnay, finishing with notes of ginger and honeysuckle. 88 points.”

Two of William Cole's awarded 88 points by Stephen Tanzer. He called the Albamar Sauvignon Blanc 2009 “fresh and nicely delineated, offering a silky texture and vibrant citrus flavors. Finishes with dusty minerality and lingering lime and spice notes.” The Albamar Chardonnay 2009 is “nicely concentrated but uncompromisingly dry, with a slightly sharp jab of acidity bracing the citrus and green apple flavors.”
